Welcome!

Hi! We are Sharenda and Susan or the “Sojourning Scholars.” We are colleagues in different departments at a liberal arts college in the Midwest, and we bonded over our shared love of pilgrimage. For several years, we have written and spoken at conferences about pilgrimage in Spain and England, and our lives have been enriched both personally and academically by these experiences. This blog began as a way to share with others our research and our pilgrim journeys. However, over the years, we have gotten to know other scholars and avid pilgrims who are just as passionate about their scholarship, so we decide to invite others to join us and share about their experiences with pilgrimage.

Some of our posts will be academic, focusing on our current research, and some posts will be very practical. We will share our academic findings as well as practical packing and travel tips related to pilgrimage. We will also discuss ways to do virtual pilgrimage walks and form community if you are unable to travel for any reason. Sharenda leads pilgrimages to Santiago de Compostela with students; Susan and Sharenda have walked the Kerry Camino in Ireland, and Susan does research on The Shrine of Our Lady of Walsingham, so we will often give tips and information specific to these pilgrimages.

We are happy you are walking with us through our journey, and we hope that this forum creates a community excited to continue the sojourning spirit wherever you are!
